Jansz Tasmania
What an absolute treat for the senses! Sensational sparkling, the finest of nibbles, and to top it all off – a fabulous flower arranging masterclass! Jansz Tasmania and The Flower Drum treated us to a really wonderful afternoon and evening.
JANSZ TASMANIA SPARKLING COURTYARD
We felt extremely fortunate to be invited to the Jansz Tasmania Sparking Courtyard during the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. Far away from our warm, sunny afternoon in Carlton at the Royal Exhibition Centre, the vineyards of Jansz Tasmania would have been slowly doing their thing in a much cooler place: the Tamar Valley of Northern Tasmania. The very cool growing conditions of this region (within the Pipers River area) allow the grapes to ripen very slowly. This creates exquisite flavours via the traditional “Methode Champenoise” they use… along with a few modern-day tricks of course! It was wonderful to hear the team talk with passion about the processes used to create their Jansz Premium NV Cuvee, their Late Disgorged Cuvee and their Vintage Cuvee. All of which were D.E.L.I.C.I.O.U.S… no two ways about it!
SENSATIONAL FOOD MATCHING WITH SPARKLING WINE
The food pairing between the canapés and sparkling was magnificent. With the Jansz Premium NV Cuvée we were treated to King Island blue cheese, sweet apple jelly, mustard seed crumbs and toasted barmbrack. With the Jansz Premium Rosé we relished some perched rock lobster, soft milk roll, salmon pearls and baby herbs. With the Late Disgorged 2006 Vintage, we savoured the mushroom truffle tartlet with goats cheese and thyme. And… as if that wasn’t already enough to sweep us off our feet… there were additional canapés including marinated Limestone Coast beef and polenta skewers with cornichon remoulade, Korean spiced free range chicken slider (with kimchi and mayonnaise on a sweet sesame bun), Osso bucco lamb with jackfruit and lime pickle, and lastly their incredible pan fried potato gnocchi (accompanied by roasted cauliflower caper and raisin dressing). The flower arranging session was LOTS of fun and the ‘beautiful work’ I did is still brightening up my life… now spread more attractively in vases around my house. The smell was truly gorgeous!
SHALL WE?
Jansz Tasmania is very much on my to-do list next time I’m in Tasmania, and their produce will certainly be on my shopping list before then! We have been told that a trip to the Jansz Tasmania vineyard takes about one hour each way from Launceston. The name, ‘Jansz’ is pulled from the same namesake of Tasmania itself: the Dutch explorer Abel Janszoon Tasman. The modern wine tasting rooms look over the vineyard and a picturesque lake. Sounds like a great place to unwind!
