Warran Glen Garden Centre & Cafe

Warran Glen’s cafe is in a beautiful garden setting near the flowing Yarra River in Warrandyte. Tucked away amongst the tall gums, one could be forgiven for driving straight past! The smell of spring-just-around-the-corner was in the air when we took Ben’s mum out for brunch on a brisk but pleasant Friday morning. .

Scouring the brunch menu had Ben and his mother extremely tempted, but I was running just a little late. Gayle and Ben made sure they thoroughly sampled the coffee while they waited. We settled on the lunch menu. Ben and Gayle both ordered the vegetable pot pie, with a side of roast vegetables, whilst I ordered the utterly scrumptious red duck curry. Although Ben was pushing the coffee hard, I opted for a glass of the 2013 Crowded House Sauvignon Blanc and a Ben ordered a similarly delicious Pinot Noir (and forgot to write down what it was! If you go there, just order the house one, he says!)

Looking out across the beautifully manicured garden-cum-nursery you can’t help but feel like you are in an English tea garden. The pond with its aerating fountain and the sound of the ducks quacking and swimming certainly add to that feeling, and we suspect the misty winter morning didn’t hurt that atmosphere either. Certainly, the ambiance of the space was utterly comforting. We would highly recommend this space as a venue for your morning writing session, or a place to catch up with an old friend. It’s busy but somehow quiet all the same!

The gift shop is renowned for beautiful and one-of-a-kind treasures. It is well worth taking the time for a leisurely browse. For those of you with green thumbs, the nursery contains a wide range of seasonal and native plants and seedlings and a good selection of garden decorations that will satisfy even the fussiest horticulturist!
